Holiday Lantern Tour

"A Holiday Lantern Tour at Sauder Village"Saturdays November 29 or December 6 or Friday, December 12 or Saturday, December 13

Please note: While this is a family oriented program, it may be too long for preschoolers and younger. This is really appropriate for children 6 and over.

This is a special program to celebrate the Holidays. Through a personalized guided lantern tour, participants will learn about holiday celebrations in Northwest Ohio in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Stops include the 1910 Homestead, the District 16 Schoolhouse and St Mark’s Church and NEW in ’08 The Elmira Depot. Along the way, your guide will share stories about Christmases past and the history of Northwest Ohio.

Sauder Village

Note: We did this last year, and I highly recommend it. The tours are small enough for personal attention (the children get to help decorate the house, any questions are answered, etc.)

Holiday Lights

Holiday Lights
November 28-December 19, 2008
Fridays at 7:30 PM

With each passing night, the Sun sets earlier and earlier; our nights get longer, and our days colder. Soon the holiday season will be upon us. On these clear, dark nights we see the same stars our ancestors saw when their solstice celebrations established many of our modern holiday customs. A perfect program for the holidays, Holiday Lights traces the origins of our calendar and our holiday celebrations, and examines how they are both related to the flickering points of light we call the stars.

The Star Gazer

The Star Gazer
November 7-21, 2008
Fridays at 7:30 PM

The Star Gazer is an exciting program produced by the Great Lakes Planetarium Association that explores how imagination, curiosity, and scientific thought have allowed us to begin to understand some of the deepest mysteries of the universe. The Star Gazer is narrated by Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek’s Lt. Uhura. While she journeyed to the stars in TV and movies, in this planetarium program she shows us how we can “visit” the stars with telescopes and our minds.

Our Planet

Our Planet
November 1-22, 2008
Saturdays at 1:00 PM

We spend so much time exploring outer space here at the planetarium that it’s easy to forget we live on a planet in space, too. Our Planet takes a look at the Earth and how it interacts with the Sun and Moon. Along the way, we discover why we have seasons, wind and rain, tides, and the Northern Lights.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Sunday, October 19 at 1:30

Michigan Theater Not Just for Kids series

This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe. This strange and wondrous place is ruled by the cold-hearted White Witch, who makes the winter last year round. Although they seem unlikely saviors, the children fulfill an ancient prophecy by defeating the witch, thus restoring sunshine and peace to the spell-bound Narnia and returning the great Lion King Aslan to his throne.
